I am definitely inspired to run a race after last weekends marathon! The Virgin Money London Marathon always has this effect on me.
But there’s so many races to choose from, and so many different types. Last year I did my first ever half which was great and I’m already looking into doing another. However I fancy doing something a little different too….
…an obstacle course! I really fancy running, getting muddy and clambering my way through a number of obstacles to the finish line. It just sounds so much fun!
Ok so the Tough Mudder is on my wish list, but definitely need a warm up first.
I recently found out about the Spartan Race…and it looks amazing.
Spartan Race is one of the world’s leading obstacle race series. They claim “It’s an event of pure primitive craziness that you’ll never forget!”
With races all over the globe, the Spartan race has different distance events for the first-timers through to the hard-core military type (Ok, maybe not challenging enough for some crazy Navy-bods out there!).
There is fire, mud, water, barbed wire, and occasionally Hell on Earth – so they say!
The different race lengths:
A Spartan Sprint: 5+ KM / 15+ OBSTACLES : Spartan Sprints are a great starting point to becoming a Spartan. The muddy 3+ mile/15+ obstacle Sprint is fun for everyone, from beginners to seasoned athletes. The shorter Sprint presents plenty for the hardcore Elite to test themselves against, while giving new Spartans a good start to their Trifecta!
A Super Spartan: 13+ KM / 20+ OBSTACLES: The Spartan Super obstacle race provides an 8+ mile/20+ obstacle riddled battlefield of insane terrain, combined with obstacles to test your physical strength and mental resolve. The Spartan Super is designed to push you to your limits, show you the strength inside, and lead you across the finish line!
The Spartan Beast: 20+ KM / 25+ OBSTACLES: The Beast is a grueling 12+ mile/25+ obstacle race. Think you know what you are capable of? Then step up to the Beast and get out of your comfort zone. Our Beast of an obstacle course will bring you face to face with your demons. No excuses, no mercy, no giving up!
They don’t encourage skipping obstacles – so it will mean training for all outcomes and there WILL be obstacles to catch you off guard. With no obsatcle list or course map – they like to keep you on your toes – this adds to the excitement and element of surprise. Now doesn’t this sound super fun?
I actually have teamed up with Spartan Race to give you amazing readers a chance to win one free race! I know…No excuses now not to get muddy, slippy, soaked and challenged!
The competition is running through twitter (http://bit.ly/1PoxjZD). All you have to do is follow and retweet to be in with the chance of winning. Winner will be selected on Sunday at 9pm at random.
Hopefully I’ll be joining you too.
For anyone who doesn’t win – I do have a 10% discount code for you too – BLOGGER15
