Lifestyle|| A look back at 2016

I can’t believe 2016 is nearly over. In some ways, it’s a good thing – it hasn’t really been the best year worldwide has it – but I’m here to focus on the positives.

So here’s a look back at the best bits of my last year…
In January I left my old job, and moved on – a step up and opportunities to learn lots more. I’ve also met some lovely people as a result.
In January I also went to an event at Cowshed in Shoreditch, where I met Kim for the first time. Since then, we’ve been to lots of events together and become great friends – one of the things I love about blogging. The last year definitely wouldn’t have been the same.
I also had my first adult swimming lesson in January! I was desperate to become more confident in time for holiday, and now I am definitely a stronger swimmer – I now regularly go for the exercise, and even swim with my head under the water!
February was rather quiet, but this was the month that I found out that  was going to be an Auntie!
March was my birthday month! In the first half of the month, I tried my first pilates class, and also went to a Levi Roots cookery class with Alex which was fab!
For my birthday, Alex took me to Circus, the awesome restaurant with circus acts performing while you eat, and to the Electric cinema in Notting Hill to see Batman vs Superman – awesome experience. My birthday weekend was also Easter weekend so I had a fab long weekend off work.

April was a good month at work with events, and I went to Lucky Voice with work for the first time ever, a karaoke club with separate rooms – we had such a laugh.
May has two bank holidays so is always a fave month – how can you not like two 3-day weekends a month? I also took Alex trampolining at Oxygen FreeJumping which was an awesome date night, and had a lovely weekend in Leicester with one of the besties catching up. Lucy and I also tried Anti-Gravity Yoga – yoga in a silk hammock, with lots of being upside down and twirling, finished off with a nice little rock in the hammock.

In June, I did a cocktail making masterclass (a belated birthday celebration), which was SO much fun – I definitely got pretty drunk too – and we also had my auntie and uncle to stay for a lovely weekend of sight seeing, food and drink – We had some fab cocktails at Duck & Waffle!
I also went to see Guys & Dolls in the theatre too, with Rebel Wilson playing one of the leading characters. It was AWESOME.
In July I went to Wireless festival which wasn’t quite as good as 2015, but an awesome day out with Alex.
I also went to Grillstock with Char and had a fab weekend catching up with her in Bristol.
Later that month was Alex’s birthday. I took him to Go Ape for the day (SO much fun!), and then for dinner at Hawksmoor as he’s such a meat lover (delicious meal).

August was pretty busy with V Festival with Lucy, an amazing long weekend, and Notting Hill carnival – I have to go every year.

My little brother came down to visit too – we did some sightseeing, went to Bounce and introduced him to burritos!
I also became an auntie on August 31st, to the cutest little baby girl!
In September, Alex and I finally booked the Quad Biking experience I bought him for Christmas 2015, and had so much fun in Red Hill.

We went to Meatopia too, which was awesome (still thinking about the SmokeStak taster).
I also had a lovely day with Kim in September, out for an Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea, and being part of the audience for a recording of Michael McIntyres Big Show – so funny! Love McIntyre.

I also experienced London Fashion Week fr the first time ever! (All the perks of being Kim’s plus one 🙂 )
This was all before our week in Portugal, a definite highlight of the year. A week of delicious food, relaxation, karaoke, swimming with dolphins and going to the water park.

In October, my brother came to visit again, and we had an amazing evening at the Megamix Games, doing old school races and fun new games like Zorb football.

We went to the London Cocktail Week village which was pretty cool too – so much creativity!

Halloween was great. I dressed up as a Scarecrow, and I went out with Kim and some of her friends, in Angel. We went to the Queens Head pub, which has a dance floor upstairs. They had oldskool R’n’B (and some new stuff too!) so we had a good dance.
I also started teaching myself how to cook Caribbean in October and surprised myself with how good it tasted – all thanks to my Levi Roots cookbook.

Ooo and my redesign for my blog went live!
In November, I had a much needed week with my family. I spent 3 days at home with my parents and 2 days at my sisters (and her boyfriends) with them and my niece. Such an awesome week, I relaxed, did some festive baking with mum, caught up with everyone, went dog walking, swimming with my sister and niece, it was just what I needed.
I also tried Hula Fit for the first time which was lots of fun! I took Lucy with me one Monday evening. I didn’t think I was going to come out so sweaty, and my abs really did hurt for the next couple of days – sign of a good workout!

December is always another of my fave months – well everything is just so Christmassy and most people are in a really festive mood.
This December, we went to my sisters for an early Christmas get together with lots of the family. Her BF proposed (SO cute!). I had a lovely afternoon with Fran in Notting Hill, I wandered through London everyday gawping at the Christmas lights whilst getting from a to b, and I had a fab day in Birmingham with my little sister.
Alex and I also celebrated our 5 years anniversary. I took him to Temper, the new Neil Rankin restaurant, for meat and fizz, and we went on for cocktails afterwards.
I met Kim for Christmas drinks the week before Christmas, which was lovely (something I hope to make a tradition), and my housemates and I also went out to try Honest Burgers Christmas burger (which was amazing).
I then went home to the parents’ house on Christmas Eve, ready for Christmas celebrations with the family – Church, lots of food and laughter.
I had the most AMAZING Christmas, which has definitely ended 2016 on a high.
Looking back at all the awesome things I’ve done this year makes me feel pretty happy about 2016. I made some lovely friends through blogging, had some awesome experiences, ate lots of delicious food, had some fab times at home relaxing with the family, and got way more creative in the kitchen.
All that’s left to say is, I hope you had an awesome year too, be sure to look back at all the positives. Here’s to a fab 2017!!
