I’m sure many of you will have already been thinking about booking this year’s escapes, if you haven’t already put a deposit down on the next adventure. January, being the month of looking to the year ahead, and the sales continuing on, is always a popular month for making travel plans.
Last year, Alex and I went to Portugal (read my review here) and spent a week in all inclusive accommodation in the Algarve. But it’s not just the hotel and location which made our holiday – we had the most incredible morning swimming with dolphins. So I had to tell you all about it, so you have it in mind when planning your hols…because trust me, it’s a once in a lifetime experience.
We didn’t actually plan on booking the experience before we left for our hol, but after our first meeting with our Thomson rep, where she went through the experiences we could book, we couldn’t stop ourselves.
OK, so we did pay about £150 for the experience, but it’s totally worth it.
We got a whole day in Zoomarine, a water theme park with rides, slides, animal enclosures, bird and acrobatic shows, sea lions and dolphins, as well as our Dolphin Emotions experience – a two hour session with the trainers and dolphins.
We got signed in, were given special disinfected flipflops and a wet suit, before heading to the outdoor pools. The trainers introduced us to the dolphins, showed off some tricks before we were sent into the deep bit to do a trick with the dolphins.
We then got some time up close with the dolphins, learning about their form and what they like. We got plenty of cuddles too.
Finally we each got to do a board surf or a dorsal ride with two of the dolphins, before saying goodbye.

The time flew by, but it was absolutely incredible. Nothing could be substituted for that morning. It was one of my favourtie things of 2016!
If you’re still yet to book your travels, definitely look into it. It’s an experience of a lifetime, and one you’ll remember forever.
What do you recommend should be on my travel bucket list?
