SO, sometimes I’m lazy. You know those days where you just can’t be bothered to do much? I know you have those too. Well, some days I like to just stay in, snuggled up on the sofa, with my laptop and a good tv series. Sometimes the days start with a gym sesh, making me feel less guilty for the laziness, others I roll out of bed and only make it the sofa.
I’ll leave for the supermarket to pick up a few bits for dinner if I have nothing in, but will only pop to the nearest Budgens. Weekend supermarket trips to the larger superstores are a nightmare! So you can see why I got excited when I heard about Pilot, a new on demand delivery app, delivering everyday essentials and artisanal brands across London in 30 minutes or less! 30 minutes!!
I got delivered a box to see what the service was like, and the kind of brands Pilot is working with and was pleasantly surprised!
Delivered only 2 minutes after my scheduled time (that’s got to be a record?!), my box was filled with a range of treats from cool & quirky brands, including Karma Cola, Hippeas, Chocolate and Love, The Protein Ball Co., Well & Truly, Candy Kittens, Sipsmith and Fever Tree.
The first thing that stood out to me was the birthday card. For one, it was awesome – I love a funny card. Secondly, I’m SO bad at remembering to buy birthday cards, I always forget. So to receive a card in my package, which would have been in under 30 minutes, would totally save me from letting down my nearest and dearest! I hate that almost embarrassed feeling, and guilt.
The remaining treats were all snacks and drinks, both alcoholic and soft drinks, but Pilot also offers delivery of pharmaceuticals, fresh food, frozen food and other groceries too.
Surprisingly I’d never tried Karma Cola before. The artisan brand has a range of organic and fairtrade fizzy soft drinks, including Karma Cola, the original coca-cola, and Lemony Lemonade. With its own foundation, which raises money to support farmers and their families in Sierra Leone, there’s even more of a reason to buy these drinks, and it was great to see Pilot teaming up with them.
The Karma Cola did taste different to Coca Cola or Pepsi – it wasn’t overly sugary (you didn’t get that sugary coating on your teeth) and had a slight tanginess at the end of each mouthful to which we couldn’t quite place the flavour (perhaps slightly cherry/lime/vanilla). It was delicious by itself and would have made an awesome mixer too. The Lemony Lemonade, was much the same, almost tasting like a cloudy lemonade, with a lovely zinginess to it.
The Candy Kitten sour watermelon sweets were thick, and really chewy. With a distinct watermelon flavour, and a sour edge, they were delicious and went down a treat on movie night!
The Well & Truly tortilla chips were delicious too. Salty, with a great crunch, you couldn’t tell they were gluten free. They were fab dipped in salsa or used as a side to my homemade chilli one evening.
The Chocolate & Love bar, had a good snap. Super rich, this dark chocolate had an almost luxury taste, which developed as the chocolate melted. I had a couple of squares on movie night, and then enjoyed some of it in my morning porridge! (a little tip I got from my Nanny!)
Overall, a fab box of branded goodies. It’s great for last minute spontaneous movie night snacks and additional drinks for a girls night in. It also gives the perfect excuse only to leave the sofa to get the door when you hear the doorbell. I think this new on demand delivery service is a great idea. We all have those days/nights where we’ve forgotten something on the shopping list, or really can’t face the outside world. This is just the answer.
Pilot is currently only available within 30 minutes of Kings Cross. They’re rapidly expanding and hoping to have 2 more locations in the next couple months, meaning they’ll be covering most of London. So keep an eye out!
What’s your fave movie night snack at the moment? Have you tried any of the above before?
