Eating Out|| Brunch at Broadleaf London

Only some of you will know one of the main reasons I started blogging back in 2013. To meet people. I wanted to meet other bloggers, make new friends. Having no friends in the big city when I first moved down, it was pretty daunting, but also exciting. I could start over. Find the real me – I don’t care how cheesy that sounds. It’s so true.

I feel so priveleged every time I get invited to an event. And I absolutely love it. The networking side of things has gone from a scary situation to one I absolutely love. OK I still have to be in the mood for it. But making new friends, and chatting to and finding out about new people is one of my favourite things to do.

Just over a week ago, I was lucky enough to be one of the small group of influencers invited to the Flavour Venue Search Networking event at Broadleaf London. What was even better – it was a three course lunch on one of the sunniest Saturdays this year!

Flavour Venue Search is a team of professional party venue finders, taking the stress out of venue hunting. And they do the searching for FREE! Nadia and Tom, the couple behind the venture are lovely people too, with such a passion for London places to eat, drink and dance!

On to the brunch…

Broadleaf is a beautiful location in the city of London. With it’s brass/copper bar, hues of deep orange and brown, leather seats and booths, a tiled flooring round the edges, it has a relaxed yet premium speakeasy vibe. On Saturdays Broadleaf hosts live music too, adding to the chilled atmosphere. The Saturday we went there was a male & female duo who were amazing!

The lunch/brunch menu, features two fab deals – 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses for £25, with unlimited mimosas, prosecco, bloody mary, wine or beer for £15.

The food offering, features something for most dietary requirements, which are all outlined on the menu, making it easy to see. The starters sound like main dishes themselves, but most arrive in a smaller portion – still pretty filling. There’s the regular brunch dishes like eggs royale and pancakes, but also mac and cheese croquettes and a spiced butternut squash soup.

With a squeeze of lemon, the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was delicious. A generous portion, it was pretty filling. The eggs were beautifully cooked, softly scrambled and creamy.

Even so, the mac and cheese croquettes gave me serious food envy. They were crisp, with a thick breaded coating, and had a mild, creamy mac in the middle. A bit big for a starter though – one of the girls who had these, had two starters rather than a starter and main.

The mains menu consisted of lunch-style options including a superfood salad, roast corn fed chicken, crab linguine and a cheeseburger, amongst other dishes.

The salmon fishcake, made with sweet potato, was crisp on the outside, mushy on the inside. With a delicate flavour, it paired well with the spinach and chive sauce.

The superfood salad however was the perfect choice. Consisting of mixed grains, seasonal greens, goji berries, almonds and light herbs, it was delicious. At this time of year, it’s served with avocado and lettuce – just what I fancied on such a sunny day. The flavours and textures working oh so well together.

At this point, I wasn’t sure I’d fit much else in, despite going for the healthier options, but I was dying to try a dessert. They just all looked so good. And my sweet tooth was begging me to give in.

The sticky toffee pudding was rich and glutinous, with a potent vanilla bean, indulgent ice cream. I had a taste, and although extremely jealous, it was HUGE and I could not have finished it after such a fab 2 courses. In future, I’d definitely go straight into the main, and save myself for a sticky toffee dessert!

The pineapple carpaccio, pomegranate and coconut sorbet was fresh and refreshing. The pineapple juicy, the coconut sorbet almost like an icecream, indulgently creamy, and the pomegranate adding extra bursts of sweet juicy flavour. I don’t think I need to tell you how much this suited the warm weather!

Alongside my three courses, we sipped on cocktails, mocktails and fizz. Myself trying to detox, I went for the minty mocktail and I cannot tell you how summery and cooling it was. I’ve actually started thinking I don’t need to give into the alcoholic options, when there’s soft drink options like this.

It was pretty quiet around our table. I think we were the chattiest. Getting to know one another, finding out about each other’s fave foodie spots (I have some new ones to add to my ever growing list) and just getting to know more about eachother. It was such a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

SUMMARY:

  • Price: 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses for £25, with unlimited mimosas, prosecco, blood mary, wine or beer for £15. Pretty standard for a bottomless brunch on the weekend in London

Have you been for a lunch-style brunch? Do you often pick mocktails over the alcoholic options?
