I hardly ever go for a cake when out for coffee. I almost always exercise my will power (which is apparently very strong according to my mum) to resist the temptations. No cake, no extra gym time needed is what I tell myself…silly I know. But when I was off recently for a long weekend, I had cake with a coffee not once but twice! The second time was so good I had to tell you about the cute spot I discovered. I say discovered, I mean shown. Out for a catch-up with Lorna, one of the girls, she took me to one of the sweetest places. Stepping inside the old Palmers pet shop where Yumchaa teas is located, the interior had such a country…

It’s become a birthday tradition of sorts that on/for Alex’s birthday I take him out to one of the best meaty restaurants in London. This year, following a fab recommendation from KS Ate Here, we celebrated his birthday at basement bar and chop restaurant, Blacklock. The city restaurant, situated close to Sky Bar, looks almost a little hidden and mysterious from the exterior. With just a black fascia and sign, Alex didn’t have a clue where we were, which added to the birthday surprise effect. Downstairs, the restaurant feels minimalist yet chic, with bare brick walls, dark woods and black leather seats. It almost likes you’ve just entered an American ranch. The menu, focused around chops and steak, looks small but don’t be fooled. With…

Thrill seekers. This one’s for you. My final birthday surprise for Alex. All he knew was to wear full length trousers or jeans, sleeves, trainers, maybe a coat in case he got cold, and to bring no bag. As we were walking from Lambeth North station he actually asked if we were going to Battersea Dogs home to walk dogs. He had absolutely no idea. And his London geography was so out..you’d expect better from a London born and bred 26 year old considering he wasn’t blindfolded. Haha. Easy to find in Archibold Park, somewhere between Lambeth North and Waterloo, the postcode will take you to one of the side entrances of the public space. All you have to do then once entering the park…

How many times have you had Chinese and ordered something veggie? Ok, if you’re vegetarian, how often do you choose Chinese over another wold cuisine? For me. I’d never ordered a veggie option, I usually love to choose something different to the many meat dishes I eat when with Alex. But it’s always been a  matter of limited options. Looking at a standard Chinese menu, there’s a vegetable chow mein, mixed veggie curry, veggie sweet and sour, or just something plain, like mushrooms. Where’s the variety? Well that was until recently. Zing Zing has just launched a new vegetarian and vegan offering, the ZZGREEN menu. With over 20 options, with everything from Szechuan Aubergine to Sweet Potato Rendang, there really is plenty to choose from.…

It was Alex’s birthday recently, and what better excuse to finally meet his dad. Alex loves the theatre, and although he’d  already seen the production his dad had booked before, he was still just as excited. Me, lucky enough to be invited too, I was ecstatic that I was finally getting to see the musical I’d wanted to book for such a long time. Dinner first, the awkward questions soon passed “how did you meet?”, “When did you know you liked him?”, “What made you go for It?” – when you met at uni and first kissed on a boozy night out (ok after messaging as friends, and flirting a little, for quite a while), the face does start to turn a slight rosy colour…
