Simple yet seriously satisfying – you can’t beat a good avo on toast. I love avocado!
It’s just so creamy and adds a delicious flavour as well as keeping you full. Ok, so I know it’s not calorie free, but it’s full of good fats which I don’t always get enough of – unless I’ve been eating peanut butter of course, but that’s only on gym days.
It not only tastes delicious on toast by itself, it’s amazing with poached eggs, or even as a side to a cooked breakfast. I often serve it sliced on the side, but love a good smashed avo – it’s so much easier for topping toast. I can’t be the only one who hates taking a bite of toast and taking most of the topping with the first bite.
For me, it’s not just about mashing avocado with a fork, you have to add a few extra flavours to fully bring out the potential of the green fruit. So I thought I should share my recipe with you.
You could add tomato too, or top with poached/fried egg, or smoked salmon, or crushed almonds. Which ever way you fancy. I’m currently addicted to the fresh pumpernickel and rye bread rolls from Morrisons, which taste amazing with fresh avo on top!

The Ultimate Smashed Avocado
The additional ingredients really bring out the flavour and make a fab toast topping, or side to a dish
- 1 avocado medium
- 1/4 tsp chilli flakes
- 1/4 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tomato medium, chopped (optional)
- black pepper to season
Remove the stone from the avocado and spoon out the flesh. Place in a bowl and roughly mash. I like mine quite lumpy.
Stir in the chilli flakes, lemon juice and tomato (if using).
Season with black pepper, and serve as desired.
